VELOX BOILER

 Type:- High pressure, water tube, forced circulation steam boiler. 

Working principle :

It's principle of working is “when the gas velocity exceed sonic velocity, the heat is transferred from the gas at a much higher rate than rates achieved with sub-sonic flow. The advantage of this theory is taken to effect the large heat transfer from a smaller surface area in this boiler ”.

Construction & working :

- VELOX boiler makes use of pressurised combustion .

- The gas turbine drives the axial flow compressor, which raises the incoming air from atmosphere pressure to furnace pressure. 

- The combustion gases after heating the water and steam, flow through the gas turbine to the atmosphere.

- The feed water after passing through the economiser is pumped by a water circulating pump to the tube evaporating section. 

- Steam separated in steam separating section flow through the superheater and form superheater its move to prime mover.

Advantage of VELOX boiler 

1. Very compact, so occupies less space. 

2. Greater flexibility. 

3. Very high combustion rates. 

4. Quick to start. 

5. Low excess air is required, because the pressurised air is used and the problem of draught is simplified.
